SUMMARY:

KYMCO (KYMCO USA) is recalling certain model year 2016 K-Pipe motorcycles manufactured March 1, 2016, to May 25, 2016. In the affected models, the gear shift pattern was assembled in a reverse sequence when compared to the standard setup. As such, these motorcycles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 123, “Motorcycle Controls and Displays.”

CONSEQUENCE:

If the motorcycle shifts opposite of other motorcycles, a rider may be confused and may select the wrong gear, adversely affecting control of the motorcycle and increasing the risk of a crash.

REMEDY:

The remedy for this recall campaign is still under development. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact KYMCO customer service at 1-888-235-3417.

NOTES:

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
